Hello,
My
name is Ms. Hanson. I have been teaching second grade at
Overlook Primary School for nineteen years!
When I was in second grade if you had asked me what I wanted
to be when I grew up , I would have told you I wanted to be
a teacher. That never changed. I always knew that I wanted
to be a teacher, and I love teaching second grade. I also
love to travel.
Almost
every summer I go back to Montana to see my family. I help
with the house, do some hiking, and relax a little. It is
expensive but I like to travel to other countries too.
Last summer I went to Germany, Switzerland and France with
friends. I had a wonderful time! And as you might imagine I
ate way too much because the food was just so good!
A few of
summers ago I went to India. It was an amazing trip. I
learned so much about the beauty of the land and the
wonderful people. There were incredible palaces, temples,
and mosques. The roads are very busy and everyone uses them,
trucks, buses, cars, auto-rickshaws, motorcycles, bikes,
carts (drawn by people, horses or oxen) and cows and dogs
roam the roads freely. I saw lots of schools there
too.
I
have also been to Australia. Australia
was
wonderful. I went to visit my cousin Dave, who is living
there. We traveled to central Australia, called the Red
Center, and saw Ularu. It is a giant red rock that sticks up
in the middle of the desert. Then we traveled along the east
coast of Australia. I went sailing and snorkeling for the
first time. We ended the tour with a backpacking trip on
Hinchinbrook Island. Great scenery but watch out for the
crocodiles!
Before
I came to work at Overlook I lived and worked in a small
town in Japan teaching English to Japanese students. I lived
there for three years. My students were all different ages.
I spent most of my time working at the two junior high
schools in the town. But every Friday I would go to one of
the four elementary schools and teach lessons to different
grades. I even worked with the high school students and
adults in an evening class I taught. I miss the kind people
I met there. And I think I might be sad if I hadn't made so
many good friends here in New York!
Hope
to see you soon,
Ms.
Hanson

My cousin, Sean lives in Montana. Some
summers he fights fires in Montana.

This
is a school in India near where I was staying.

This is Uluru, also known as Ayers Rock.
It is right in the middle of the Australian Continent.
We did a 9 km walk around the base.

The
beaches in Australia were wonderful!
The colors were incredible.
You can see the beach behind me
